4.4 Quake Gives Southern Alaska Early Wake-Up Call

A moderate earthquake shook southern Alaska about 40 miles north of Anchorage Friday, waking up residents but causing no major damage, officials said.

A spokesman for the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer said the 12:52 a.m. quake registered 4.4 on the open-ended Richter scale.
