One man was shot and a teen-ager was stabbed early Sunday during a party that spilled onto a residential street because of a dispute over a girl’s dance partner, police said.

Lt. Terry Rammell said the violence began about 12:50 a.m. during the party at 861 S. Durham St.

“There was a dispute among those at the party over who was dancing with one of the girls at the party, which led a large group of people at the party outside the house,” Rammell said.

A 17-year-old West Covina youth then pointed a small-caliber handgun into the air and fired several shots, police said. Alfredo A. Salazar, 21, of La Habra, tried to wrest the gun from the youth and was wounded in the leg.

At this point, Rammell said, other partygoers intervened in the struggle for the gun. A person who has not been positively identified pulled a knife and began stabbing the 17-year-old, who “was brought to his feet, began walking away, then collapsed,” Rammell said.

The youth was taken to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. His name was not released because he is a suspect in the shooting of Salazar, Rammell said.

Two suspects have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the stabbing, Rammell said. Raymond P. Gonzales, 21, and Manuel Dominguez, 22, both of La Habra, were being held without bail Sunday at the La Habra City Jail.
