Local News in Brief : Irvine : Bicyclist Fatally Hurt in Collision With Bus
A bicyclist was fatally hurt in a collision with an Orange County Transit District bus on Michelson Drive near Jamboree Boulevard during rush hour on Monday evening, authorities said.
The victim, a white male in his late 30s or early 40s, was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana after he struck the rear bumper of a westbound OCTD bus about 5:30 p.m., Irvine Police Sgt. Ron Flathers said. The bicyclist died an hour later of head and chest injuries suffered when he struck the pavement. Flathers said the bus did not run over the man, who was not wearing a helmet.
The victim’s identity was withheld pending notification of relatives.
