“Hughson has become a house of tears and a city of sorrow,” the Rev. Don Slaven said as the small Stanislaus County farming community buried the third member of its 1988 high school graduation class killed in an accident. About 500 people attended the funeral of Michael Cain, 17, who struck his head and drowned while swimming in a canal on July 19. Two other youths were killed before the approximately 100-member senior class graduated in June. Mark Richard Ramirez was hit by a freight train on April 16, and Michael Lindstrom’s sports car crashed into a metal gate on May 30.
