“It’s the first time a concert of this type of fund raiser has been done in this nation,” claims the Rev. Carl Bean, founder and executive of the Minority AIDS Project, of the “Coming Home For Friends” AIDS benefit gospel concert, set for August 4 at the Shrine Auditorium at 7:45. All proceeds will go to the project, in order to benefit AIDS victims in the minority community. Among the scheduled performers: Dionne Warwick (of whom Bean said, “This event is taking place because of her”), Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle, Al Jarreau, Jennifer Holliday and the Rev. James Cleveland. According to Bean, Minority AIDS Project was founded in 1985 in order to service the needs of the poor and illiterate in the Black and Latino communities, which weren’t being addressed by government agencies. Information for the benefit: (213) 936-4949.
