Bob Woytowich, 47, a former defenseman for the Kings who left the Los Angeles hockey team in 1972 to become one of the original members of the Winnipeg Jets, died in a single vehicle accident in Winnipeg. Authorities said there was some indication Woytowich may have suffered a heart attack.

His pickup truck had strayed before hitting a light standard. He was pronounced dead at a hospital at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

Woytowich, who went by the nickname of “Augie,” also played for the Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins.
