Local News in Brief : Bank Courier Wounded

Share

A Bank of America courier was shot three times Wednesday by a bandit who had attempted to rob him as he made a delivery of canceled check and bank records to a bank office at Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles police said.

As the courier, whose identity was not immediately available, parked his small truck in the bank parking lot about 5 p.m., the bandit demanded at gunpoint that he get out of the vehicle, Police Lt. Bruce Meyer said.

Instead, the courier tried to escape by driving away, but he was chased by the bandit who fired several shots, Meyer said. After crashing his truck into a curb, the courier ran into the bank where he asked employees to call police--warning them not to go out to the lot.

The bandit then tried to escape in the truck, Meyer said, but he crashed into a wall when he tried to go forward. As he backed away from the wall, he “impaled” the truck on a pole. He then jumped out of the truck, scaled a wall and escaped, Meyer said.

The courier was in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
