Local News in Brief : Warrant in Fraud Case
An arrest warrant was issued Monday for an alleged con man who failed to appear at his arraignment in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
Richard Griffin, 56, was to be arraigned Monday on 66 misdemeanor charges for allegedly swindling homeowners facing mortgage foreclosures.
According to Deputy City Atty. Ellen Pais, Griffin never kept his promises to help homeowners refinance loans. He disappeared after collecting hundreds of dollars in fees from each homeowner.
The criminal counts cite 22 victims, but Pais said there may have been hundreds of others. James Bailey, who has been acting as Griffin’s lawyer, was released from the case at his request Monday. Bailey declined to comment on the case.
