At least seven people were injured Friday when a Southern California Rapid Transit District bus was struck by a car driven by a 13-year-old boy on a South Los Angeles street, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 11:30 a.m. on West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at the intersection of Western Avenue when the car ran a red light and broadsided the bus, Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said. The driver of the car, who was not identified, will probably face a citation from juvenile authorities after further investigation, police said. The boy and a 15-year-old passenger were taken to County-USC Medical Center with minor injuries.

About 30 of the 50 passengers on the bus complained of ailments, with most being treated at the scene by paramedics, Los Angeles Police Officer Ty Mandala said. Five were taken to nearly hospitals for further treatment, but none of the injuries were serious, Mandala said.
