NFL Bans Collins for One Year
Tony Collins was banned from the National Football League for a year by Commissioner Pete Rozelle Friday.
The action was taken under Step 3 of the NFL’s substance abuse program after the running back failed a drug test given by the Indianapolis Colts. Collins, who was released by New England and signed by Indianapolis during the off-season, had twice violated the league’s drug policy during his seven years with the Patriots.
According to that policy, Collins, 29, may petition for reinstatement after one year.
