The Pittsburgh Pirates, who have been seeking left-handed pitching help, obtained Dave LaPoint from the Chicago White Sox for right-handed reliever Barry Jones.
Pirate Manager Jim Leyland said LaPoint probably will start Wednesday night against Atlanta.
LaPoint, 29, was 10-11 with a 3.40 earned-run average for Chicago. He has won his last three decisions, including a 7-2 victory at Seattle Friday night.
Jones, 25, has been the Pirates’ primary setup man. He is 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA with 2 starts in 42 appearances, all of them in relief.
