Classic Films Due at Classic Theaters

A series of classic films shown in classic theaters sponsored by the Los Angeles Conservancy concludes tonight at the Wiltern with a showing of Busby Berkeley’s 1933 “Footlight Parade,” for which one of the original stars, Ruby Keeler, will be on hand.

A live celebrity fashion show and old newsreel will precede the screening. Tickets are $12 for the general public and go on sale at 7:15 for the 8 p.m. show.

Conservancy spokesman Gregg Davidson says that, after previous shows at endangered theaters, tonight’s conclusion of the annual “Last Remaining Seats” series is intended as a celebration of the triumphs of restoration. The Wiltern, an Art Deco movie palace of the ‘30s, was saved from demolition a few years ago after protests from architectural preservation groups and now operates as a performing arts center.
