Local News in Brief : Capistrano Beach : Authorities Identify Man Struck by Train
The body of a man who was struck by a Santa Fe Railway train Monday has been identified as that of Harley Edward Duggan, 50, a transient.
Investigators are awaiting tests from the coroner’s office to determine whether Duggan, who was lying on the tracks, was dead before the train struck him, according to Lt. Richard J. Olson of the Sheriff’s Department.
An autopsy performed Monday showed that Duggan died of trauma to the head. Investigators did not find a suicide note or a weapon, Olson said.
The accident occurred about 3:10 a.m. when four locomotives and a caboose were traveling north in Capistrano Beach. Duggan was struck at Las Vegas Avenue, east of the San Juan Creek bed and north of Coast Highway.
