The strike at National Steel & Shipbuilding Co. enters its eighth day today, and both sides say no new talks are scheduled. Workers represented by six unions struck the shipyard last week over a wage dispute. The unions had rejected three proposals presented by the company since their contract expired almost a year ago.

A seventh union, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 569, ratified Nassco’s last proposal the day before the strike. However, IBEW leaders said their members would honor the other unions’ picket lines.

Both sides said the strike has been peaceful, but several minor incidents of vandalism have been reported. A few workers who crossed the picket line have reported that their tires were slashed. The strike has affected about 1,200 of Nassco’s 2,000 employees.
