AIDS Estimates Called Low
The number of Americans infected with the AIDS virus may be twice the federal estimates, and infection among the heterosexual population may be three times as high, according to a report released today by the Hudson Institute, a privately financed research organization.
Kevin R. Hopkins, a Hudson Institute mathematician, said a study using more sophisticated techniques than are used by the Centers for Disease Control shows that as many as 3 million Americans may be infected with the human immunodeficiency virus which causes AIDS.
