Kings Will See Fans They Never Knew They Had

Share

Reading Scott Ostler’s and Mike Downey’s columns (Aug. 10) on Wayne Gretzky was the big joke of the day.

Downey mentions that the Kings need an enforcer desperately to protect Wayne Gretzky. He must have forgotten that the Kings acquired Marty McSorley in the trade and that they still have Larry Playfair. Does he think the Kings got McSorley for his scoring?

How can these two make a judgment now when three of the players Edmonton will receive are future draft choices? Obviously, a key factor to the deal is how many years Gretzky will play before he retires. If he plays seven more years, then the Kings should be strong contenders for that period of time.

I say we don’t even attempt to evaluate this deal until 1995.
