Raiders May Return to Oakland in ’89 for Exhibition Game Against Oilers
The Raiders may be going back to Oakland . . . for an exhibition game.
Negotiations are under way for the team to return to its previous home, the Oakland Coliseum, next summer for an exhibition game against the Houston Oilers.
“We’re planning on it,” said Oiler spokesman Chip Namias. “We discussed the possibility of playing a game there, and then our general manager, Ladd Herzeg, got together with Al Davis to see if the Raiders would be interested in being the opponent. He said they would be.”
Al LoCasale, the Raiders’ executive assistant, confirmed that much.
“Oakland would be a neutral site for both teams,” LoCasale said. “It’s something that is under consideration, but nothing has been signed at this point.”
When the Raiders left Oakland in 1982, officials of that city spent years in court in an unsuccessful bid to bring the team back.
