Apple Picks Chiefs for 4 New Operating Units

Share

Apple Computer has created four new operating divisions and named seasoned executives of the fast-growing personal computer manufacturer to head each of them.

The four new divisions are: Apple Products, Apple Education and Apple Pacific, Apple Europe and Apple USA. Education and Pacific were lumped together into a single division because sales in the Pacific region are relatively small, a spokeswoman said.

Jean-Louis Gasse, currently senior vice president for research and development, was named president of Apple Products.

Delbert W. Yocam, executive vice president, was named president of Apple Education and Apple Pacific.

Michael H. Spindler, senior vice president, was named president of Apple Europe.

Allan Z. Loren, vice president of Apple Integrated Services, was named president of Apple USA.

John Sculley, chairman and chief executive, said the new structure would allow Apple to “retain the innovation and clarity of purpose that have been the foundation of our success.”

Apple watchers said Loren’s rapid rise within Apple seemed most noteworthy. He has been with the Cupertino, Calif.-based company for about a year, having come from insurance giant Cigna.

Charles Boesenberg will remain as senior vice president for U.S. sales and marketing, but will now report to Loren.
