Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Agency to Start Talks on Development Project
The Anaheim Redevelopment Agency will begin negotiations with a Dallas-based construction firm for a $35-million development project that would bring new apartments, homes and shops to the downtown area.
The City Council voted Tuesday to begin 120 days of exclusive talks with Lincoln Property Co. to build a mix of rental units and homes with some commercial space to three downtown parcels totaling about 20 acres. The project is part of a 35-year plan to redevelop Anaheim’s inner-city area.
Lincoln, which has a local office in Huntington Beach, “is the largest developer of rental units in the country,” said John Buchanan, development services manager for the city.
Lincoln, which could be designated by the City Council as the project’s “master developer” at the end of the negotiation period, was chosen over three other bidders. City staff had recommended approval of a bid by Linpro Co. of Berwyn, Pa., a contracting and real estate management firm.
