Redskins Trying to Trade Schroeder
Are those Raider-Schroeder trade talks really dead?
The Raiders have named Steve Beuerlein to start the season at quarterback and have discounted rumors that they are interested in Jay Schroeder, the Washington Redskins’ backup.
But Tuesday, Redskin General Manager Bobby Beathard said publicly for the first time that he has been trying to trade Schroeder, although he didn’t say to whom.
“Well, we told Jay we’d try to accommodate him,” Beathard told WUSA, a Washington TV station. “Joe (Gibbs, Redskin coach) told him that. But so far, nothing’s worked out.”
Schroeder played in the second half of the exhibition against the Raiders last Saturday. Raider players, noticing that he came out firing deep despite Washington’s 21-7 lead, suggested he was being showcased.
