Irving Mansfield, a publicist and television producer who was best known as the husband of the late novelist Jacqueline Susann, died Thursday at the age of 80 after suffering a heart attack, his family announced today.

Mansfield’s best client was his wife, who wrote a series of sexy best-sellers, including “Valley of the Dolls,” “The Love Machine” and “Once Is Not Enough.” Susann died of cancer in 1974 at 53. Before deciding in 1965 to devote himself to Susann’s career, Mansfield produced numerous television programs, including ones starring Arthur Godfrey and Judy Garland.
