Muhammad Ali is receiving blood-cleansing treatments by his physician, Dr. Rajko Medenica, who blames the former boxing champion’s weakened condition on household pesticide poisoning and not Parkinson’s syndrome.
The 46-year-old former heavyweight champion walked into a South Carolina hospital waiting room, jabbing at the air, minutes after undergoing an eight-hour blood treatment in an attempt to relieve the slurred speech and tremors that have plagued him in recent years.
“I feel like I can fight Tyson,” Ali said in a hoarse voice at Hilton Head Hospital.
Although Ali has been diagnosed as having Parkinson’s syndrome, possibly brought on by blows to the head during his boxing career, Medenica disagrees.
He blames household pesticide poisoning, which he says probably affected Ali severely because of his rapid metabolism when he was in peak physical condition.
