Weekend TV : Debut of ‘First Impressions,’ Look at Seoul Olympics Brighten Summer

A new series will break up TV’s dog days of summer this weekend.

“First Impressions,” debuting tonight at 8 on Channels 2 and 8, stars Brad Garrett as the head of a company that makes television commercials whose wife has just walked out on him and their 9-year-old daughter. The series is scheduled to run on CBS for eight weeks.

Lifetime cable looks ahead to next month’s Olympics tonight at 9 with “Women of Seoul.” This hourlong program profiles several women athletes who are hoping to make the U.S. Olympic team and also recalls heroics of former Olympians.

Sunday, the PBS pledge drive concludes with “A Grand Night: The Performing Arts Salute Public Television” on Channel 28 at 8:15 p.m. Hosted by Richard Thomas, this musical tribute features performances by Shirley Jones, Peter Martins and members of the New York City Ballet.

And Sunday brings the 40th annual Emmy Awards, to be seen at 8 p.m. on Channels 11, 3 and 6.
