A Trans World Airlines passenger jet aborted its takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday after the pilot reported slow acceleration, authorities said.

Flight 846 to Boston never left the runway, and no injuries were reported from the 9:01 a.m. incident, Dick Hallen, a duty officer for the Federal Aviation Administration, said.

The Lockheed L-1011, carrying an undetermined number of passengers and crew, was rolling toward takeoff on a runway at the north side of the airport when the pilot “indicated to the tower that they were slow to accelerate” and decided not to depart, Hallen said.

“He requested emergency equipment just in the event that they may have had hot brakes (from slowing down),” the officer said.

Airport crash trucks rolled but were not needed, and the plane returned to its gate, Hallen said.
