Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Man Is Found Slain in Mystery Shooting

Police Monday were looking for a suspect and a motive in the fatal shooting of an unidentified man Sunday night.

Police received a call about 8:50 p.m. Sunday reporting a “man down” at Bristol and Myrtle streets, Sgt. Collie Provence said. Officers found the victim, who was shot once in the chest, at the intersection.

The victim was transported to Western Medical Center, Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m., Provence said.

A coroner’s deputy said the victim was a Latino, 25-30 years old, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing gray slacks and brown leather shoes.

The shooting is not believed to be related to gangs, and no information is available on what sort of firearm was used, he said.
