For the first time in its history, Starlight opened its dress rehearsals to the public as reduced-price previews this summer, and the response was staggering. “We expected about 800 to 1,000 people at these performances, but we’ve doubled that all summer,” said co-artistic director Bonnie Ward. “We’re amazed, since we really didn’t publicize this much,” said marketing and promotions director Roberta McClellan. “Part of the reason is the fact that we can offer the best seats in the house at these performances. Otherwise, season subscribers take over the choicest seats.”
