The Life You Save May Be Your Own

I was so pleased to read that the California Department of Transportation wants to construct traffic roundabouts.

A recent survey I had seen--which stated that England has lower traffic fatalities per 10,000 vehicles than the U.S. has, despite higher speed limits--prompted a discussion between my son and me. We lived in England for a number of years and believe that roundabouts contribute to the safety of roads as well as promoting smooth flows of traffic.

The additional modifications proposed by U.S. engineers appear to be improvements on an already good model. Having to be aware of the movement of other cars rather than watching the color of traffic lights is so sensible.

Please, Caltrans, come ask our forward-looking population here in Orange County for a test location. I’m sure you would be welcome.
