Recent crashes by military aircraft in the San Diego area:

-- Dec. 30, 1987--An OV-10 Bronco, a small Marine reconnaissance plane from Camp Pendleton, crashed in the desert near Palm Springs. The pilot and a crew member were killed.

-- June 26, 1987--An EA-3B Skywarrior, an electronic surveillance aircraft, crashed at Miramar while practicing landings on a simulated carrier deck. The three crew members were killed.

-- March 20, 1987--An F-14A Tomcat from Miramar crashed and exploded in a canyon just north of Scripps Ranch. The two crew members parachuted to safety.

-- Sept. 3, 1986--An F-14A Tomcat crashed into the ocean after taking off from North Island. The radar officer was killed and the pilot was injured after they ejected from the plane.

-- April 20, 1986--A Navy A-7E jet from the Naval Air Station at Lemoore in Central California collided with a civilian glider 6,500 feet in the air in northern San Diego County. The jet was on its way to Miramar for a refueling stop. No one was hurt.

-- April 1, 1986--An aerial refueling tanker crash-landed at North Island. No one was injured.

-- March 26, 1986--An F-14A Tomcat based at Miramar crashed into the Pacific 80 miles southwest of San Diego during a routine flight. The pilot and radar officer ejected over the ocean and were rescued.

-- March 12, 1986--An F-14A Tomcat from Miramar crashed at sea while attempting to land on an aircraft carrier 100 miles off the coast of San Diego. Both crewmen ejected and were rescued.

-- March 5, 1986--Two civilian Learjets under contract to the Navy collided near San Clemente Island during a radar training exercise. All four people on board were killed.

-- Dec. 3, 1985--An FA-18 fighter skidded for 5,000 feet, then flipped as it landed on a slick runway at Miramar. The pilot was killed.

-- July 31, 1985--An OV-10 Bronco reconnaissance plane crashed during a Marine training exercise at Camp Pendleton. Two Marines were killed.

-- May 25, 1985--A Navy TA-4 Skyhawk jet from Miramar crashed into San Diego Bay while attempting an emergency landing at North Island. The pilot died and a flight officer was injured.

-- March 11, 1985--An F-8 Crusader photo reconnaissance jet from Miramar crashed and burned in the parking lot of a Sorrento Valley high-tech industrial complex. The pilot ejected safely and two people on the ground were injured.
