Striped Bass Are Really Biting

Share

If you’re going fishing at Pyramid Lake, take your binoculars and look for fish boiling on the surface.

That’s the advice from the staff there, which reported that the striped bass were boiling Monday right in front of the concession stand, responding to the usual surface baits: spooks, shad wraps and walking minnows. They bite up to noon, then disappear until 4 in the afternoon. The staff is urging anglers to release fish under 5 pounds.

Largemouth and smallmouth bass are biting on worms and shad wraps but with warmer water the trout have gone down to 10 to 15 feet.

The catfish have slowed down, but Linda Pardy, Department of Fish and Game warm water reservoir specialist for Southern California, says recent fish counts indicate they’ll come back strong during these late summer days.
