Monterey Park : Water Tank Work to Start

Share

Nearly one year after the Oct. 1, 1987, earthquake severely damaged the city’s water reservoir tank, work is scheduled to begin next week to tear it down and replace it with a new one.

The City Council approved the $573,677 project after City Engineer Eduard Schroder recommended that an Anaheim firm, Caliagua Inc., be awarded the construction contract.

After the earthquake, the damaged tank atop Sombrero Drive was drained, and the city utilized a less efficient and more costly system of pumps to distribute water, according to city officials.
