The Palos Verdes Estates City Council has adopted a motion picture permit policy. The ordinance, which takes effect Oct. 13, restricts shooting commercial motion pictures, television programs and commercials to Mondays through Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and requires that off-duty city police officers supervise the activity.

In addition to paying a business tax, film makers may also be assessed a $300 general daily use fee, a $1,500 commercial zone daily use fee, a $750 residential daily use fee, a $750 parklands daily use fee and a $750 coastal zone daily use fee, depending on the scope and nature of the production.

The ordinance was adopted at the request of citizens who complained to the city about disruptions caused by filming.
