Local News in Brief : 2 New RTD Board Members Named

Two new members of the Southern California Rapid Transit District board have been named.

Mayor Tom Bradley selected former Los Angeles city school board member Larry Gonzalez, now a news director for a Spanish language television station, to replace Carmen Estrada, who is leaving the transit board to fill a position on the Los Angeles City Planning Commission.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Pete Schabarum named Jeff Jenkins, a 26-year-old assistant on his staff, to replace Erwin Jones. Jones was ousted earlier this month because he had taken stands at odds with the supervisor, most notably on a Schabarum-backed plan to form a new public bus system using private bus companies to take over a large share of San Gabriel Valley service provided by the RTD.
