The Pledge of Allegiance Issue in the Presidential Campaign

A thousand hurrahs for Edwin M. Yoder Jr. (“Where Is Patrician in Bush When He Incites Pledge Mob?” Op-Ed Page, Sept. 15). It is right on the mark, a masterpiece of writing, and such a welcome relief from the nervous journalists who abound, censoring their own brains and consciences for what I find a disgusting consensus, miles from the things that would really make us free Americans. I didn’t think I could feel effusive about news written or televised anymore, and here I am at my typewriter feeling like Diogenes, having found an honest man who was not afraid. Wonderful, wonderful.
