Joe Ely returns this week with a new album, “Dig All Night,” on Hightone Records. The Ely disc is full of self-penned tunes, including several songs (“Rich Man, Poor Boy” and “Settle For Love”) which were originally recorded for a never-released album Ely cut for MCA Records. . . . Also on the comeback trail is Gary Stewart, who penned such country classics as “She’s Acting Single, I’m Drinking Doubles.” His first new solo album in years is titled “Brand New,” and features such tunes as “Rainin’ Rainin’ Rainin,’ ” “Son of a Honky Tonk Woman,” “Empty Glass” and “Murdered By Love”. . . . Elvin Bishop is back with a new album called “Big Fun.” Just out from Alligator Records, it features Bishop updates of Memphis Slim’s “Beer Drinkin’ Woman” and Piano Red’s “Right String Baby But the Wrong Yo-Yo,” plus new tunes like “My Dog” and “Oklahoma Country Girl”. . . . Warren Zevon’s upcoming album, “Transverse City,” features such new tunes as “Down to the Mall” and “Networking.” Zevon hopes to have the album completed by Christmas. . . . Dave Alvin and Ray Campi will headline this Tuesday’s KCSN-FM Barn Dance at the Palomino Club. The show begins at 9 p.m. and admission is free. . . . And guess who’s coming out of retirement? David Bromberg. He has a new album, “Sideshow,” due out from Rounder Records, with such sidemen as Jackson Browne, Dr. John, John Sebastian and David Lindley.
