Homicide detectives believe the execution-style killing of an insurance saleswoman near San Diego State University was narcotics related.

Maria Nguyen Bradley, 27, of the 4500 block of Collwood Boulevard, was shot in the head with her hands tied behind her back in the living room of her ransacked condominium about 2 p.m. Wednesday. She died after being taken to Mercy Hospital.

A male companion of the victim was shot in the head and upper body. David Gurney, 28, was found outside Bradley’s condominium near a swimming pool. Gurney was treated and released at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police first suspected that Bradley was shot during a burglary attempt, but evidence uncovered Thursday made them suspect narcotics were involved, Lt. Phil Jarvis said.

Sgt. Ed Petrick said Friday that Bradley’s car was missing when police arrived at her condominium. He said they found the car Friday, broken down on Miramar Road. Gurney said he had gone to Bradley’s home to help her get her car fixed.

Three men seen leaving the the scene in an old Toyota Celica, dark blue and possibly with primer paint on a left rear panel, were still being sought.
