Local News in Brief : Sign Poster Told to Appear Before Board
Los Angeles officials want Chris Spanos to take down the thousands of signs he posted throughout the city urging people to vote in the Nov. 8 election.
Spanos has been notified to appear Thursday at a Department of Public Works hearing where he will be told that if he does not remove the placards from public property (such as telephone poles), he will be billed for the removal cost, a spokesman for the department said. Spanos, a Hollywood poster distributor, spent several thousand dollars on the signs and has vowed to take them down after the election.
Self-proclaimed guerrilla artist Robbie Conal, whose Contra Cocaine posters decrying alleged drug-running by Nicaraguan rebels have appeared throughout the city, has been ordered to appear before the board on Oct. 20.
