What is our bottom-line most inviolate morality regarding life on this planet? What values do we as Americans and as human beings hold most dear?

U.S. investigations confirm Iraq’s use of poison gas which may have killed hundreds of thousands in that country’s genocidal attempt to find a solution to the Kurdish insurrection (Part I, Sept. 22). On Sept. 9 the Senate voted unanimously to block trade with Iraq until we are satisfied that Iraq has ended its use of chemical warfare.

The Reagan Administration opposed the legislation in favor of diplomatic isolation. The proposed sanctions would hamper Iraq’s attempts to rebuild its war-torn economy--an effort that is expected to bring contracts to many American and European firms!
