TV RATINGS : Besides the Olympics and Reruns : Movies Boost Week’s Ratings

CBS won the gold medal in Sunday night’s ratings Olympics, as “Cocoon” edged out ABC’s movie about the late Liberace with an audience of about 15.5 million homes, the A.C. Nielsen Co. reported Tuesday. NBC’s coverage of the Closing Ceremonies took the bronze with about 11.1 million homes. ABC also did well Tuesday with “Stand By Me,” though it didn’t beat the Olympics that night.

* A paid political ad for Lyndon Larouche on ABC was seen in “only” about 3.2 million homes, but still fared better than three of Fox’s regular series. For a full list of the week’s ratings, please see Page 10.
