DMV to Add 2 New Offices in Valley

Congestion at Department of Motor Vehicles offices in the San Fernando Valley is expected to be eased with the opening of two new offices by February, 1989, officials said Tuesday.

The addition of a full-service facility in Reseda, slated to open in early 1989, was announced this week by state Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Van Nuys). The services will include registration, driver’s license testing and issuance of identification cards.

Another new office offering the same services is scheduled to open within the next 60 days at Victory Boulevard and Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood.

Neighbors have expressed concern that the North Hollywood facility will clog the surrounding streets with increased traffic. But DMV spokesman William Gangler said, “We are working with the city to make sure we will meet the accepted traffic flow and parking requirements.”

Overall, the two new offices should lead to shorter lines and improved service throughout the Valley, officials say.

The Reseda facility on Parthenia Street at Lindley Avenue “will relieve pressure on the Van Nuys, Arleta and Winnetka offices and afford greater convenience for citizens of the North San Fernando Valley area,” Robbins said in a news release. It will have a staff of 17 and parking stalls for 40 cars.

The DMV, which plans to establish 24 new offices statewide by the end of 1989, generally adds facilities in areas where population growth has led to overcrowded services, Gangler said.

All the new facilities will be in leased office space.
