Local News in Brief : U.S. OKs Traffic Project Funds

Share

Federal funds have been allocated to plan the reconstruction of the traffic-clogged intersection of Aviation Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue in El Segundo.

The funds were included in a transportation bill that was signed by President Reagan last week. The measure appropriates $900,000 for engineering and environmental plans.

The project calls for redesigning a railroad trestle at the intersection to permit the widening of the streets. Funding for construction work, which is estimated to cost at least $3.5 million, has not yet been appropriated.

The El Segundo Employers Assn. lobbied heavily for the planning money. Reconstruction of the major intersection is considered key to improving traffic flow on surface streets in the community.
