A Caltrans employee found a body Thursday afternoon near Campo Road in Jamul, the sheriff’s department reported.

The body, which had apparently gone unnoticed by the side of the road for three or four weeks, was in such an advanced state of decomposition that authorities were only able to determine that it was of a dark-haired man, 20 to 30 years old, wearing blue Levi’s and a nylon-type athletic jersey.

The Caltrans worker found the body at about 12:40 p.m. in the 14700 block of Campo Road, near California 94 and Honey Springs Road, the Sheriff’s Department said. The dead man was lying about 25 feet east of the road.
