Local News in Brief : Newport Beach : Policeman Breathes Life Into 5-Day-Old Baby
A 5-day-old baby who stopped breathing Friday morning was revived by a police officer minutes before a paramedic team arrived, a police spokesman said.
Police spokesman Bob Oakley said Richard Thibeau called for assistance at 10:40 a.m., saying his newborn daughter, Lacy Ann, was not breathing. Before paramedics arrived at the Thibeau home in the 1300 block of West Balboa Boulevard, Officer Glen Fisher arrived and found Thibeau outside the home holding the baby.
“The father was pretty hysterical,” Oakley said.
Fisher, 27, gave the infant mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and the baby began breathing about three minutes before the paramedics arrived. The baby was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, where she was treated and released.
“The paramedics said the officer saved the baby’s life,” Oakley said.
Fisher, of Mission Viejo, has been a Newport Beach police officer for a year, Oakley said.
