Lithuanians Give Soviets Assist to Gold Medal

Share

In detailing Soviet basketball players’ performances against the United States, four of the players--Arvydas Sabonis, Sarunas Marciulionis, Rimas Kurtinaitis and Voldemaras Chomicius--are called Soviets.

All four players are Lithuanians, not Soviets nor Russians.

The outstanding performance of these Lithuanians won the game and gold medal for the Soviet Union. All Lithuanians in this country and all over the world are proud of their achievement.

Editor’s note: Although reluctantly, Lithuania is 1 of the 15 republics in the Soviet Union, and its residents may properly be described as Soviets.
