The chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee is soliciting some of the nation’s largest corporations to contribute a total of $500,000 for a movie to commemorate the panel’s 200th anniversary next year, according to the Washington Post. Rep. Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.) said there is “no pressure” on the corporations to give and he dismissed the notion that his influential position gives tax-policy-dependent corporations no choice but to contribute to remain in his good graces. Rostenkowski said that far from twisting arms, he had turned down offers from corporations in favor of raising the money from a larger group representing business and labor.
