Oklahoma linebacker Kert Kaspar returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to take the steam out of a Texas rally and help lift the 10th-ranked Sooners to a hard-earned 28-13 nonconference victory over the Longhorns Saturday at Dallas.

It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Sooners in this Red River rivalry, which spans 83 years.

Oklahoma (4-1) led, 14-0, at halftime, but Texas (3-2) took the second-half kickoff and scored in 12 plays on a 4-yard Shannon Kelley-to-Eric Metcalf pass to pull within 14-7.

Kaspar then grabbed a pass after it deflected off Texas receiver Johnny Walker, broke three tackles and scored for the Sooners to break Texas’ momentum.

The 17-point underdog Longhorns managed field goals of 48 and 44 yards by Wayne Clements, but the Sooners put the game away on Charles Thompson’s 8-yard run to climax an 81-yard fourth-period drive. Thompson came in to play quarterback after Jamelle Holieway injured an ankle in the first quarter.

Arkansas 31, Texas Tech 10--Fullbacks Barry Foster and JuJu Harshaw each scored in a 14-point third quarter as the 20th-ranked Razorbacks went on to a Southwest Conference victory over the Red Raiders at Little Rock, Ark.

Foster and Harshaw each ended time-consuming touchdown drives as the Razorbacks expanded a 10-3 halftime lead to 24-3 in the first 14 minutes of the third quarter. At that point, Arkansas had piled up 153 yards in two possessions and Tech had had the ball less than 3 minutes.

Arkansas improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the SWC. Tech dropped to 1-4 and 1-2.

Texas A&M; 30, Houston 16--Texas A&M;’s Darren Lewis, held to 54 yards in the first half, scored in the second half on touchdown runs on 29 and 26 yards to help rally the Aggies to a SWC victory at Houston.

Lewis broke 3 tackles on a 29-yard, third-quarter touchdown run that put the Aggies (2-3, 1-1) ahead for good. Late in the fourth quarter, Lewis ran 26 yards for a touchdown, giving him 201 yards in a career-high 40 carries.

The Cougars (3-1 and 1-1) fought back behind backup quarterback Andre Ware, who scored on a 2-yard run with 4:33 left.

The Aggies cannot win their fourth straight SWC title because they are on NCAA probation.

Baylor 45, Southwest Texas St. 7--Tailback Anthony Ray ran 28 yards and 2 yards for touchdowns and set up a field goal with a 58-yard run as the Bears defeated Southwest Texas State at Waco, Tex., for Coach Grant Teaff’s 100th victory at Baylor.

The game matched Teaff, in his 17th season at the Southwest Conference school, against a Division I-AA team coached by John O’Hara, offensive assistant under Teaff from 1973-82.

Teaff’s overall coaching record is 142-129-7.

Baylor is 4-2 this season. Southwest Texas fell to 2-4.

Texas Christian 21, Rice 10--Richard Booker’s 29-yard interception-return touchdown capped a 14-point scoring flurry in a 15-second span of the second quarter that sparked the Horned Frogs in an SWC game at Ft. Worth, Tex.

TCU improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in SWC play. Rice fell to 0-4 and 0-2.

Rice (0-4, 0-2), which has lost 11 straight, took an early 7-0 lead.

But TCU struck back to tie it as Scott Ankrom, a running back in the first quarter, relieved David Rascoe at quarterback in the second and took the Horned Frogs (3-2, 1-1) 60 yards in 12 plays. Ankrom got the final 2 yards.

On the first play after the kickoff, Booker stepped in front of tailback Richard Williams on and ran untouched into the end zone, as TCU took a 14-7 lead. Cedric Jackson added a touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter for the Horned Frogs.
