Compiled by staff writer Jerry Hicks

Randy Steven Kraft, charged with murdering 16 men, is on trial in Orange County Superior Court in what some legal experts say will be the biggest and costliest case in California history.

LAST WEEK: Jurors heard from police officers, doctors and criminalists about the deaths of Geoffrey Allan Nelson, 18, Rodger James DeVaul, 20, and Eric Herbert Church, 21. Pictures of DeVaul appearing lifeless were found in Kraft’s car. Prosecutors claim that fibers from Church’s maroon socks were found on Nelson and in Kraft’s car. They also claim Church’s jacket and belt were found in Kraft’s garage.

THE PROSECUTION: ‘We’re moving along right on our schedule, but we’re way ahead of the schedule others seemed to have for us. ‘

THE DEFENSE: ‘The trial is going to be shorter (than predicted), but that’s because the prosecutor has pared down the number of witnesses we expected him to call for each of the deaths. ‘

C. Thomas McDonald, Kraft attorney
