Texas-El Paso Beats Hawaii
Pat Hegarty threw 3 touchdown passes and returned a recovered fumble for another score Saturday night to lead Texas-El Paso to a 42-25 Western Athletic Conference victory over previously unbeaten Hawaii.
Hegarty completed 19 of 27 passes for 287 yards for the Miners (4-1, 2-1). Hawaii, which plays at San Diego State Saturday, is 4-1, 2-1.
Hegarty added another score by scooping up John Harvey’s second-quarter fumble and racing across the goal line. Harvey gained 121 yards in 20 carries before leaving the game early in the fourth quarter with a sprained ankle.
