Local News in Brief : Stun Guns Ruled Out as Cause of Deaths
Autopsies have determined that the use of stun guns on two suspects who died last month after police tried to restrain them did not contribute to their deaths, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Thursday.
But an autopsy found that one of the suspects, Charles Eugene Miles, 37, of Bellflower died from a combination of intoxication with the drug PCP and blows from officers and other actions taken to restrain him.
Miles died Sept. 10 at County-USC Medical Center after a struggle with police in which officers used the stun gun.
In the other stun gun case, an autopsy found that Edward Breen, 38, died of a cocaine overdose Sept. 11 after a struggle in which Bell-Cudahy police used a stun gun to subdue him.
