Campbell Is Gone, and They’re Not Happy
I am ordinarily not the letter-writing type, but I think my 16 years as a Padre season ticket holder gives me the right on this topic.
I strongly disagree with the decision not to rehire Dave Campbell as the Padres’ radio announcer. He is knowledgeable and articulate, and his insightful comments have definitely been the most valuable part of the Padres’ radio presentations, pregame, during the game and postgame.
The Padres’ front office has presented itself in the past number of years as being bumbling and uninformed. Campbell has been honest and well-informed. The decision not to rehire him is not only another public relations gaffe but will also substantially lessen the quality of the entertainment product which, I believe, it is the Padres’ intention to deliver to the paying public.
