Warner Springs
California Division of Forestry firefighters, on their way by helicopter to a fire in southern Riverside County, heard shots near Warner Springs that eventually led a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Astrea helicopter to a hunter who had been lost since Sunday, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The man said he was from Ramona, but would not give his name and refused medical treatment, Sgt. Roy Hood said Monday.
He had suffered minor cuts on the head but was coherent and could give the time, date and location, Hood said.
Hood said the man had slipped down the side of a hill into deep bush and terrain.
No one had reported him missing, but sheriff’s search-and-rescue teams began combing the area after they heard gunshots and, as they closed in, shouting from the man, Hood said.
